The Word, with Our Morning Coffee

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” – James 1:22-25

Getting refilled with God’s Word daily is a must for all Christians. His Word is our lifeline, our divine and sustainable connection to living a life orchestrated by His Spirit. We receive His Word by attending church, Bible studies, personal study, and hearing His Word audibly as well. But did we know that we are totally accountable for doing the very word we hear, speak and receive? His Word is telling us right here in the first chapter of James that we ought to be doers of His Word. It doesn’t benefit us to sit up under an anointed man or woman of God, hear and receive God’s ordained and blessed Word, then not apply and live that very word. We ought to take that Word and allow His Holy Spirit to guide and teach us to live out what we receive from His word. God calls us blessed when we do His perfect Word and apply it to our lives. Our witness is perfected in His integrity and righteousness, and will stand as others see Him working in us daily in the things we say and do. It’s not about being seen with good works. It’s about a relationship that transcends those of the world. Take God’s Word, and ask Him to give you strength and understanding to live out what you read from His Word. Live out loud that the Father may be glorified in you. Have a great day my friends, in Jesus’ Name!
