New Creation Brings New Character

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 30, 2014

new creation

When I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and Lord, I was happy, yet, I didn’t know what to expect. I understood the decision I made to confess Him, proclaim, declare His goodness and what He did for me by the shedding of His blood on Calvary’s Cross. I believed that what I decided to do, to turn from the direction I was going in life at the time, age 16, to totally and completely follow Him was crucial to my future and where I was eventually going in life. In some aspects, I was fearful and uncertain.

Fast-forwarding to today, some 30-something years later, through the course of so many challenges, changes and a life filled with bad choices and decisions, I finally found my way by the grace of God and His Spirit. Back then, I didn’t truly realize the transformation that had to take place in my life because I still wanted to hold on to a part of the life I was living back then. But God purposely showed me that when I receive Him as Lord and Savior I am a new creation in Him. That new creation His word talks about (1 Cor. 5:17) tells me that I’m not the same guy I used to be. Things will have to change in mind, body and spirit. This meant a whole new transformation of life for me. I struggled for many years adapting to this but I’m thankful God kept His hand on and in my life because I later discovered He had a plan specifically for me. But God showed me that there were some things He wanted to remove and replace, so I went through a process of healing, transformation and renewing to make this happen.

This process involved a number of changes but I had to be willing to let go of them and allow God to insert those “character” traits were fruits of His Spirit. This transition was a battle with my flesh, not wanting to change, being resistant and defiant. But His Holy Spirit help me realize that God’s love was more than what I needed or ever needed. So I gave in, and He transformed my heart and my mind first before everything else. In Colossians 3:12-17, God’s Word says . . .

“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

This was edifying to say the least. I had no idea that this new creation in Christ included these character changes, from the inside to the outside. I’m thankful and grateful that I stayed with the decision to go through the process because I’ve realized what being a new creation in Christ truly means. Even to this day, I’m still working at trying to be the best creation God can make me. It takes submission to grow, to come to the end of self, then allow the grace of God to overwhelm me with love, patience, kindness and humility. I needed that. I no longer desire to hold onto my past life or relationships that eventually led to destruction and calamity. I let it go and now I’m reaching for God, and all that He has for me, my marriage and my family. I truly am a new creation in Christ. I believe it, God said it, and that settles it!

Live as You Are Called

Breakfast of Champions“But as God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk. And so I ordain in all the churches. Was anyone called while circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Was anyone called while uncircumcised? Let him not be circumcised. Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters. Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called. Were you called while a slave? Do not be concerned about it; but if you can be made free, rather use it. For he who is called in the Lord while a slave is the Lord’s freedman. Likewise he who is called while free is Christ’s slave. You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. Brethren, let each one remain with God in that state in which he was called.1 CORINTHIANS 7:17-24

Power Punch with Proverbs

Power PunchPROVERBS 11:7, 8

“When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, and the hope of the unjust perishes. The righteous is delivered from trouble, and it comes to the wicked instead.”

If we really take a serious look at this portion of scripture, it clearly states in essence the adage we’ve heard over the years . . . “What comes around goes around!” So true. When we look at the intentions of those who mean harm and hurt to us, it will eventually come back at them sooner or later. That’s why we need not worry about revenge or getting back at those who want to cause us harm, God will preserve us through it all. So trust God to protect you when things seem to go south with evil intention. Don’t play with the enemy.

Fellowship with Him and One Another

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life—the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us—that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full. This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.  – 1 JOHN 1:1-10

Three Areas of Accountability: #1- Alignment

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 29, 2014

accountableYou ever wonder why the word accountability is a word that’s seldom used when trouble is present, or when a decision is made that went bed and the results were futile to the outlook of a business venture? Well, in our society today, accountability is being used more so now than it ever has been. People in general are tired of the decisions and choices being made in life with knowing who made them, why was this or that decision was made, and how did we get to this point in life? A lot surrounds those questions and other concerns when it comes to accountability because of the vast dynamics it affects within our society, and that mainly refers to individuals being accountable to one another in ordinary life decisions. This week we want to take a look at accountability briefly and see how being accountable can be our friend and not our enemy. Three areas we want to address: Alignment, Authenticity, and Identity.

ALIGNMENT

Our lives can be radically altered if we are not in alignment with godly accountability. First of all, all of us should have men around us that we trust with our words, our thoughts and our perspectives on life we’d like to see for ourselves. But trust comes with relationship development so that accountability can be activated with true intentions. Knowing that we have those in our lives that hold us to what we say, what we do, even when we are alone, is critical to the process. One thing that will surely help us is that we maintain a healthy, consistent prayer life. Praying for ourselves, our marriage and family on a daily basis will show a willingness to keep the focus on what’s important to us. Sharing with those men in our lives those things that are important build strong ties to relationship development, being honest and truthful in all aspects of our lives leaving no room for the enemy to discourage us with lies or deception. If the vertical relationship, God & us, is consistent, then all other relationships will follow suit with transparency and honesty which is so needed for accountability to have its effectiveness and relevancy. Staying in alignment with prayer, keeping God first is relevant to any accountability efforts because it shows a desire to be real and genuine without fabrication. God wants and desire us to keep Him first in all things with nothing coming before Him.

Power Punch with Proverbs

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 29, 2014

Power PunchPROVERBS 11:4-6

“Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way aright, but the wicked will fall by his own wickedness. The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, but the unfaithful will be caught by their lust.”

Well, we have seen from previous chapters in Proverbs that righteousness wins every time. No matter how we look at life, those of us who display the righteousness of God, His truth and precepts being manifested within the very walls of our lives and our environments, we know that we pleasing the Father. The very choices we make, especially with those we surround ourselves with, will experience the peace of our Father, Jesus Christ.

Daily Manna

THE MODEL PRAYER

“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place;and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do.For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.  – MATTHEW 6:5-15

Power Punch with Proverbs

Power PunchPROVERBS 11:3

“The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.”

Are you standing on the morals and principles you were raised on during your youth, adolescence and young adult years? Or are you standing on your what others influenced you to become-always trying to get ahead, stepping on anyone and everyone just to get to the top of the corporate ladder? We live and display what we believe, not what we think. And if we look around and see what others are thinking, isn’t it safe to say “Man, aren’t some people in for a disappointment!” But it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s a choice. We can choose to do right or choose to do wrong. Either way, the end result will display the fruit of that choice. What are you standing on today?

Daily MannaTHE PARABLE OF THE GOOD SAMARITAN

“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy;love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”  LUKE 10:25-37

Power Punch with Proverbs

Power PunchPROVERBS 11:2

“When pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom.”

Presumptuous, arrogant, egotistical, and even stuck on himself or herself are words and phrases that come to mind when I look at pride. So many times in life we tend to forget how we got where we are in life, the road we took, or had to take because of the choices and decisions we made, good or bad. Sure we committed ourselves to doing the right thing but we didn’t have all the right answers all the time. We had help. Some of that help came from friends, people we don’t know, even angels whom we have entertained and didn’t even know it! Yes, God moved in the spirit realm, brought favor through others or something and we try to take credit for it. Well, as Proverbs says, when we exalt ourselves above all else, shame will show its face and expose us for who we really are. Let’s try to be humble in all we do. Remember, you may be standing tall today, but when you fall, the ground hurts a lot harder coming from being so high on self. OUCH!!
