Struggling With Unbelief: Trust In The Lord, PT. 1

Posted by Men of Redemption on January 24, 2015

help my unbeliefYou ever sit down and think about what’s really going on around you in life, why you are where you are, the position, this particular moment in time? Many of us don’t make time to contemplate that thought because we’re too busy trying to “survive” in life instead of enjoying it, trying to get to the next level of financial freedom, or making the next move up the corporate ladder. But when the decision or choice comes to determine which way to go, who’s right or wrong in their forecast of future aspirations for success, there’s a sense of doubt, and it’s safe to say that it could be unbelief. Yes, unbelief. We have heard over the years so many prognosticators making economical proclamations to us to invest here or there; our parents encouraging us to save our money for the rainy days; and then we have the get-rich-quick schemes that ultimately end up as such-a scheme! What are we to believe when the ones we tend to trust are not living their according to their own advise. How can we believe the prognosticators when they’re investing and losing at the same time. And then our parents telling us to save for a rainy day when their lives are barely hanging in the balance financially. But there are some people who have surprisingly well-made good decisions and choices, stood the ground and believed strongly in the idea whatever it may have been. But what do you do when you’re struggling with what to believe because everything is so uncertain or mystical? There are so many ideas, theories, and suggestions that sound so good and so real that our belief systems are tossed to and fro and there seems to be no ideal concept or foundation to stand on. It’s like we’re just hanging above sea level, barely surviving and seeing the potential but what are we standing on as a foundation? unbelief

Well, as children of God, Jesus Christ, we learn to understand that we can’t stand on what man says because his intent is temporal, only satisfying for the moment. But even children of God struggle with unbelief, and we need to go back to God’s Word to see what He’s said about unbelief and what we are to do about it. But why is there unbelief among the children of God, where believing is part of our DNA? Let’s look at one reason why: TRUST.

TRUST

So many times when we pray, we ask God to do something, to change something, to make something better or take away something that is not good for us or someone. We ask because His Word tells us to ask (JOHN 14:14). And when we read that scripture we take it to heart, believing and “trusting” that God will do what He says. But what we tend to forget is the very verse that’s before it, verse 13, which says . . . “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” It’s real easy to pick out the verses that appeal to us when it means we’re getting something or it’s going to benefit us personally because it’s in the Bible. But what are we really saying to God when we ask for certain things, especially when it pertains to our situation? Is what we’re asking God for going to glorify the Lord; is it going to bring hope and honor to His name? And when it doesn’t happen we tend to wonder, even doubt, if God really blesses His people. We ask and if it doesn’t happen within a prescribed time period we tend to not believe it all the way through, we “want it right now” kind of mentality. This happen so much with God’s people because of our lack of patience in waiting on Him, and in His timing.

“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”  –  PSALM 27:13, 14 belief

So when we start to wonder and doubt we then tend to trust not in God but in our own intelligence, our own understanding, and that we got from those we’ve learned from or heard not realizing that it’s not eternal and everlasting. Just because someone famous said it doesn’t make it a fact of life and we put all of our stakes and trust in it. We need to learn to trust God in all things and wait for His decision because He is all-knowing. Here’s what His word says in relation to understanding Him . . . .

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.”  –  PSALM 3:5-8

Yes, that’s what God thinks of the world’s knowledge, evil. Sure, the world’s thinking will get you only as far as the world is going, and that’s not going to be very far according to His Word. So let’s stop doubting our Savior and begin to take Him at His Word, and believe Him whole-heartedly, all the way through until it comes to fruition. We need to be careful and wise to whom we listen to or take advice from because everyone doesn’t have our best interests at heart unless it’s going to put a few dollars in their pockets. Search God’s Word, hear from His Holy Spirit, and trust Him always and He will guide you to all truth and understanding. Always!!
