An Encouraging Quote

Now, contentment is one of the flowers of heaven, and if we would have it, it must be cultivated; it will not grow in us by nature; it is the new nature alone that can produce it, and even then we must be specially careful and watchful that we maintain and cultivate the grace which God has sown in us.”

DevotionalOUR CITIZENSHIP IN HEAVEN

“Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things. For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.  –  PHILIPPIANS 3:17-21

content

Being Content in Life.

I am content in my life right now. God has brought me from the depths of despair. He has delivered me from the bondages of life in the decisions that I had made that lead to severe difficulties and challenges. But He has also brought me to a place where I have enjoyed the pleasures of victory, living in the freedoms that only He has enabled me to experience. So I know how men feel when they’ve hit rock bottom; when they don’t have a whole lot in life; when men struggle with being enslaved by the very choices that hey made. But I also know what it means to walk in freedom, without having to depend upon myself and trust the Lord Jesus Christ with my whole heart and not waver. I’m content in my relationship with my heavenly Father because He is my provider, my healer and my deliverer. I’m content in my thought life because I have the spirit of peace, love and of sound mind. The battles I face daily I give to Him because He fights them for me while I rest in Him. I have no worries about where my next meal is coming from, or what clothes am I going to wear today. I will not concern myself with discussions that will bring rage or indifference to those around me for the sake of argument. I will rejoice in the Lord always because He is my contentment and my peace.

“But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity. Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”   –   PHILIPPIANS 4:10-13

FROM SLAVES OF SIN TO SLAVES OF GOD Devotional

“What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  –  ROMANS  6:15-23

DevotionalTHE CERTAINTY OF GOD’S WITNESS

“This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.”    –   1 JOHN 5:6-13

What’s On Your Mind?

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 28, 2015

your mind“I’m struggling with trying to do the right thing in my life. My thoughts and the things I do influence me to make bad choices and I end up doing the worst. But I don’t want to do the wrong thing, I want to change that. So who can help me with this?

Don’t feel that you are alone in this dilemma. Every man has struggled with this decision during a season in his life where bad choices or decisions ran rapid in his life. First of all, many of us are influenced by our own environments, the way we were raised and the culture in which we were brought up in. Our parent’s influence, the peer pressures we faced daily growing up through school, and the emotional and mental struggles many of us had during our adolescence years all contributed to our character development. But the Word of God teaches us about this very same thing. Look at what Romans 7:13-20  has to say about this.

“Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful. For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.

When we are struggling with our thought life, trying to do the right thing but can’t seem to actually do it, we must examine ourselves and find out if there is sin in our lives. If we have sin in our lives, meaning making it a daily practice of doing the wrong thing purposely, we need to reach out and talk to someone who is filled with the Holy Spirit of God, to help you identify that sin and work toward confessing it and seek God’s forgiveness. We’ll never be able to do the right thing if we’re still holding onto “sin” that prohibits us from moving forward. Our intentions and desires don’t match up with what’s in our hearts is the bottom line. Seek some spiritual guidance, and also consider mentorship, someone who will walk along side you in life and help guide you to a more transparent, purity filled life and relationship with Jesus Christ.

THE FIRST COMMANDMENT OF ALL Devotional

“Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?” Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” So the scribe said to Him, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He. And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” Now when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” But after that no one dared question Him.  –  MARK  12:28-34

simple

“A man must be able to cut a knot, for everything cannot be untied; he must know how to disengage what is essential from the detail in which it is enwrapped, for everything cannot be equally considered; in a word, he must be able to simplify his duties, his business and his life.”              –   Henri Frederic Amiel, on Simplicity

GOD THE REFUGE OF THE RIGHTEOUS Devotional

“O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongs—O God, to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth! Rise up, O Judge of the earth; Render punishment to the proud. Lord, how long will the wicked, How long will the wicked triumph? They utter speech, and speak insolent things; All the workers of iniquity boast in themselves. They break in pieces Your people, O Lord, And afflict Your heritage. They slay the widow and the stranger, And murder the fatherless. Yet they say, “The Lord does not see, Nor does the God of Jacob understand.” Understand, you senseless among the people; And you fools, when will you be wise? He who planted the ear, shall He not hear? He who formed the eye, shall He not see? He who instructs the nations, shall He not correct, He who teaches man knowledge? The Lord knows the thoughts of man, That they are futile. Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O Lord, And teach out of Your law,That You may give him rest from the days of adversity, Until the pit is dug for the wicked. For the Lord will not cast off His people, Nor will He forsake His inheritance. But judgment will return to righteousness, And all the upright in heart will follow it. Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity? Unless the Lord had been my help, My soul would soon have settled in silence. If I say, “My foot slips,” Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up. In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul. Shall the throne of iniquity, which devises evil by law, Have fellowship with You? They gather together against the life of the righteous, And condemn innocent blood. But the Lord has been my defense, And my God the rock of my refuge. He has brought on them their own iniquity, And shall cut them off in their own wickedness; The Lord our God shall cut them off.”   –   PSALM  94:1-23

JESUS THE GOOD SHEPHERD Devotional

“Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me I am the door,  are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.“Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.” Therefore there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings.  And many of them said, “He has a demon and is mad. Why do you listen to Him?” Others said, “These are not the words of one who has a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”  –  JOHN  10:7-21
