Fighting Temptation . . .

In a world that’s saturated in a sexualized culture, it’s a wonder why so many marriages are ending up in separation or divorce. Everyday I leave for work there something on a billboard, or a sign advertised in a store window, and even in some areas you frequent have erotic solicitation widespread in view when making purchases by way of magazines and reading pamphlets. It’s everywhere, and it’s been like this for years, but up until now no one has really said anything about it. Nowadays, we have marriages that are literally dissolving right before our eyes because either spouse is losing their desire for each other and pursuing those things that they see or hear about, forsaking one another and their marriage vows. But the struggle is real people. This temptation we all face daily is gaining more momentum everyday and we need to stand up against this evil force and depend upon God to give us strength to fight off temptation. The Word of God says . . . “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places“(Ephesians 6:12). It’s not the materialistic or physical objects that we are dealing with but the spiritual battle that takes place in the mind. The enemy of our souls, Satan, desires to turn us away from God and he knows that deception and lust are the primary ways of accomplishing this. He knows what we like, and he will do whatever it takes to get us to turn away from God. Even though this battle of temptation begins in the mind and then eventually manifest itself in the flesh, we have to learn that this is a spiritual battle, and we can’t fight this battle in the flesh. We have to understand who we are dealing with, what we are dealing, and know what our weapons are in this battle. So many men have accepted defeat, and relinquished their vows to the devices of the enemy because they are not preparing themselves or arming themselves with the weapons for spiritual warfare that God has given us for protection from temptation. We need to get rid of the excuses of “I couldn’t help myself!; I didn’t see this coming!; I’m so sorry, I won’t let it happen again!” And I’m speaking about the people of God! I believe we have to be mindful of the schemes, the devices of the enemy, when it comes to temptation. No more passivity. No more excuses. Men of God, we need to make a stand for righteousness not matter what you and your spouse are going through. Don’t allow the enemy a foothold in your marriage or it will become a stronghold and then your troubles double in intensity. I pray that every man, and even women, that reads these thoughts will be inspired to take a serious look at where they are in their marriage and consider what the Word of God says about temptation. I’m reminded of another verse in God’s Word that says . . . .

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”  –  2 Corinthians 10:4-6

Some thoughts of a writer who’s concerned about the spiritual battle we face daily. I’m just saying . . . .
