Writer's thoughts

On Being a Doer of the Word . . . .

During my quiet time of reading and studying God’s Word, I find His instruction and guidance overwhelming and rewarding. I thoroughly enjoy reading His Word on a daily basis, looking at the various examples of life’s challenges the biblical characters and seeing how God directs their path by their obedience to Him. Now there were some who were defiant and disobedient, and they had their consequences, but God had shown His mercy and grace through those consequences for faith building and encouragement. But God’s Word does say something that so many of us tend to neglect often, and that’s doing what His Word says. There is so much that God requires of us to do, but that’s why He gives us His Holy Spirit to lead, guide us and bring things to our remembrance (John 14:26). So there is no need to say I can’t remember everything the Bible says because it’s not about remembering, it’s about doing. So if we’re not doing the His Word and what He instructs us to do then what are we doing? Pleasing our own desires; seeking those things that are geared towards selfishness; doing life our way and taking bits and pieces of the Bible and adjusting them to our lifestyle. Why is it so hard for us as children of the Most High God to just do what He asks? Look at what His Word says about this . . . .

“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”  –   James   1:21-25

Every child of God seeks Him in a different way, but the bottom line is are we doing what His Word tells and instructs us to do. He’s not instructing us to do anything He knows we can’t handle; the simple things like read His Word daily, pray daily, love our neighbor as ourselves, do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Maybe for some it is hard and for others, well, we may need a little encouragement. But if we are going to be a light in the midst of darkness we’re going to have to come out of our comfort zone and be obedient to His Word by doing what He says and asks of us.

Just a writer’s thoughts coming out loud, I’m just saying . . . .
