My Thoughts on . . . . Being in Pursuit of _____________.

What are running after in this life? I mean, we’re all running after something, whether it’s success, or upward mobility in our jobs, or reaching goals we’ve set, or even making more money because that’s where a lot of us are. There’s nothing wrong with that if it’s not your primary goal. If it is, there is so much of life that you’re missing out on. The word “pursue” comes to mind when I think of running after something.

PURSUIT:

The act of pursuing; an effort to secure or attain; quest: any occupation, pastime, or the like, in which a person is engaged regularly or customarily.

Whatever you’re pursing it’s definitely going to involve all of your energies and efforts because that’s what you want, what you desire. It seems that many of us will do anything and everything to reach that goal, get to where we want to be or attain that level of success. And the real amazing thing about that process is some of us won’t let anything get in our way. When we are determined to pursue something, we’re focused, we’re intentional in our actions, and there is no doubt as what we’re doing. Others see us and they know beyond a shadow of a doubt that we’re after something and we intend to get it at all costs. Mt thought is this: do we pursue Jesus Christ in all our getting? WOW!! I realize that’s a bomb that’s just been dropped, but it’s a true and important question we need to ask ourselves. We spend hours a day doing what we do, trying to achieve this and that, spending exasperating efforts to get what we’re pursuing but do were really go after the Lord God with that much intensity? I believe that as children of God, this should be our foremost purpose in life in everything we do. We should be pursuing Jesus with all of hearts, all of minds and all of being. When others see us pursuing Christ there should be no doubt what we’re looking for or what we’re after. Nothing should get in our way if we’re desiring Christ with our full attention. What’s keeping from this? The distractions of the world, personal agendas, other influences, and maybe, just maybe the actual goal of what we’re pursuing. Probably the biggest obstacle in our lives is the one true thing that’s keeping us from pursuing God with our whole hearts: SELF!

Just some thoughts from a men of God who desires to pray for the goodness and mercy of God to reign in the lives of His people always. Just saying . . . .

“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”

“It is possible to know all about doctrine and yet not know Jesus. The soul is in danger when knowledge of doctrine outsteps intimate touch with Jesus. ….Have I a personal history with Jesus Christ? The one sign of discipleship is intimate connection with Him, a knowledge of Jesus Christ nothing can shake.”

FRUITFUL GROWTH IN THE FAITH Devotional

“But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”   –   2  PETER   1:5-11

TRUE REST IN CHRIST   Devotional

“At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”   –   MATTHEW  11:25-30

My Thoughts on . . . . SERVING OTHERS.

One of the things I try to understand daily is how can I serve others. I want to help people in a way that will bring joy, bring some type of happiness and peace to their lives, their situations if they allow me to. In order for me to do that I need to know what it looks like, what it feels like, and can I be genuine in my efforts not looking for anything in return. I think that’s the hardest thing I find people really don’t understand about serving others. What’s in it for me? What do I get in return if I do this thing for you? That is the wrong attitude to take or to have when it comes to serving others. I can’t help be see on a daily basis how people purposely expect something in return for a deed done for them or to them. Could it be selfishness? Could it be they have an agenda that they are trying to carry out by gaining the affirmation and acceptance of those they serve? I think the is yes to both of those questions because of the type of world we live in. It’s all about self, me, and what I can get out of it. But why can’t we just let serving others be a part of our lives, not a way to conjure or manipulate others for our own desires? It’s a matter of the heart. I discovered some time ago that if serving others isn’t coming from the heart it’s coming from the mind, and that is where our biggest battle is, between the ears!

The only real true life example I know of someone who serves others without looking for anything in return is when Jesus washed the feet of His disciples. To me, that was truly the epitome of true servanthood(John 13). Christ never asked for anything, had an agenda or waited for His disciples to offer anything in return. It was in Christ’s heart to serve them and that’s what we need to receive in order to be that kind of servant. Our hearts need to be transformed to a heart for people, to truly care and have a love for people. But the world that we live in makes it so hard for so many of us because we don’t know who to trust. But we as children of the Most High God, Jesus Christ, shouldn’t have to worry about trust or the world itself, we just need to place that trust in Him, and in Him alone, and He will give us that heart for people by His Holy Spirit. So what do we have to fear? Nothing! Because our hope and trust is not in man but in Christ alone, the solid rock of our foundation.

“Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet? “Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.”  –  JOHN  13:1-7

Just some thoughts from a writer who prays and desires to see the goodness and blessing of the Lord God in each and every man and woman of God as they experience His grace and mercy in their lives. Just saying . . . .

DevotionalBUILT ON THE ROCK

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.”    –   MATTHEW  7:24-29

C. S. Lewis

“In the same way a Christian is not a man who never goes wrong, but a man is enabled to repent and pick himself up and begin over again after each stumble–because the Christ-life is inside him, repairing him all the time, enabling him to repeat (in some degree) the kind of voluntary death which Christ Himself carried out.”

DevotionalDENY OURSELVES AND FOLLOW CHRIST

“When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
