Recovery Tip For This Week

Road_Recovery

Tip for this week . . . . Be Open to Godly Counsel.

Everyone who is in recovery mode already has some protocol he/she must follow when it comes to adding disciplines and structure into their lives where there was none. That’s difficult to do, especially when denial and passivity ruled our live with reckless abandon. But what we must do is understand that there are those that God places in our lives for specific and strategic purposes, and that clearly involves Godly counsel. Sometimes it seems that when people know we’re in recovery, they want to offer advice, wisdom, or a word from God that they feel will help us along the way. But unless they know the journey, the struggle itself that we have dealt with or are dealing with, that sharing may not be useful to our advantage. That’s why we need mentors, men and women of God who are filled with the Spirit of God, whom we know are living and walking in freedom whose advice is sound, true and faithful. Let’s really pay attention to what others are saying, and what we allow those who want to help us speak into and over us while we are on our journey. It’s okay to seek their prayers, their encouragement. But let’s be mindful that every word that is spoken or shared may not be for you or for me.

“Without good direction, people lose their way; the more wise counsel you follow, the better your chances.”

Some Encouraging Words

Posted by Men of Redemption on May 2, 2016

charles spurgeon

“A healthy conscience is as tender as a raw wound, which fears a touch; but some men’s consciences are covered with a thick skin, and are devoid of feeling. Certain sinners have a conscience seared as with a hot iron, and this brings with it that horrible peace which is the preface of eternal damnation.”

Read Your Word This Morning?

Posted by Men of Redemption on May 2, 2016

Breakfast of Champions

You’ve decided you want to start reading your Bible daily, trying to gain some insight on who God is, what He’s all about and what is it that He has for you, right? Well, that’s practically all of us who are consistently reading daily. But sometimes you may feel alone in your venture. Don’t be! If you don’t know where to start, what book to begin with, or should you begin in the Old Testament or New Testament, fret no more. When I started having daily Bible reading I began with the Gospels, and the book I began with was Matthew. I learned from a Mentor that if I’m going to get to know my Savior, my Creator, I need to begin where I can relate to His birth, upbringing, his life and the work of ministry He did. The Gospel of Matthew will bring revelation to you about His deity and His purpose, all the way to His death on the Cross and His Resurrection. Once you begin this exciting story you won’t want to put it down. Make it a point of emphasis to begin with the Gospels, either Matthew – Mark – Luke – John, and get a clear understanding of our Savior and all that He did, what He’s doing and what He will do now and forevermore.

My Daily Devotion

Posted by Men of Redemption on May 2, 2016

Devotions“Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell; nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents;  nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer. Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”  –  1  CORINTHIANS  10:1-13

Today’s Point of Focus:

We are not under our forefathers’ cloud or the law; we are under grace, so let’s like we are, in Jesus’ Name!
