Recovery Tip of the Week

Posted by Men of Redemption on May 23, 2016

Road_RecoveryTip for this week . . . . Negative Influences.

One of the hardest decisions to make while in recovery is knowing who is going to be there for you as you take this journey called recovery to heart. First of all, we’ll want those who understand the journey I’m on, who knows the pitfalls, the struggles and the potholes in life that I’m going to encounter. That person or persons will know exactly how to help me, to encourage me, what to say to me that will uplift my confidence when I don’t know what to do or I’m going through a bad season in my life. I don’t need those that don’t have the understanding of the struggle or how to overcome. It’s not your title, your position or your fame. It’s about surrounding myself with those who have overcome and still are overcoming daily that I can see and emulate their efforts, strive to be like-minded. Sometimes I just have to say thanks but no thanks to those individuals. The disappointing thing about it is, they may be people who are close to me like family, best friends, some church folk, even those that may appear to have the wisdom but not the understanding that I seek. It’s nothing personal, it’s just that in recovery, influence is critical. And if I’m going to have influence, I want the spirit-filled influence whose mind is stayed on the Lord.

“A man is gradually changed into the image of that which he loves. He who hath his portion in this world grows worldly. When a man gives himself to any pursuit he first of all molds it, and then it molds him.”

Read Your Word This Morning?

Posted by Men of Redemption on May 23, 2016

Breakfast of ChampionsI’ve discovered that reading God’s Word helps make me stronger and bolder in the activities of my life. When developed a passion for reading God’s Word, my focus and determination were centered on being courageous in everything I did. Of course, I looked at myself believing that I couldn’t do a lot of the things I wanted to do in life like making a stand for righteousness instead of just agreeing with the majority. I wanted to stand out, let my thoughts and ideas be known and acknowledged. When I read how so many characters of the Bible had that same mindset, and how they overcame that inadequacy, it strengthened me, and gave me the assurance that I too, can overcome my lack of courage and determination. As I continue to read God’s Word, I look for the courageousness in the character, the tenacity, the zeal and the fire in that person and seek out how can allow that courage to operate in me like that. All I do is ask God to show how as I continue to read how He did it, why He did it, and how can put myself in position to receive the same thing. I just need to stay in His Word daily and I’ll find out soon enough.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”   –   JOSHUA  1:9

My Daily Devotion

Posted by Men of Redemption on May 23, 2016

“It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles—that aDevotions man has his father’s wife! And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you. For I indeed, as absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged (as though I were present) him who has so done this deed.  In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”   –   1  CORINTHIANS  5:1-8

Today’s Point of Focus:

Let not immorality be a part of your life or the church. Make a stand for holiness and righteousness.
