Recovery tip for this week . . . .
Be Mindful of Your Social Media Involvement.
Being in recovery, we face a lot of challenges with doing life with the right perspectives and keeping it real. But in a culture that saturated with everyone embracing social media, sometimes we can get caught up in all that excitement and lose focus on what we’re trying to avoid and that’s spiraling back into our mess. Allowing ourselves to become involved with various social media, and I don’t want to get into any specific ones because they all can be potentially become a problem to any of us in recovery, can slowly alter our hearts and minds to remain focused and determined on our plan for recovery. If you are involved in any social media, take a serious look at what it is you are connected with and ask yourself “Is this really necessary for my life right now while I’m in recovery?” Be honest, because a lot of can really be more successful in what we’re trying to do in life without it. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with social media, but while in recovery we need to be extra careful in communicating intention and purpose with everyone. Social media isn’t for everyone and we have to understand that. There is a lot of responsibility that goes with it. There are also consequences for our actions, good and bad. So be very careful and mindful of what you involve yourself with because there are those out there who can hijack social media accounts and intervene negatively on your behalf and you’ll never know until it’s too late. It’s happened to the best of us. Be wise in all that you do while in recovery. We can never be too careful.
