Restoring a Life of Purity – One Day at a Time

Read Your Word This Morning?

Posted by Men of Redemption on August 18, 2016

Breakfast of ChampionsHow much of God’s Word should I read when I start my reading? This is a question we all ask ourselves when we begin reading His Word. First, we have to ask ourselves what is it that we’re searching or looking for as we read-Are we Purposeful with Intent when we open up God’s Word?” Well, we should be! Reading God’s Word isn’t a novel where we pick it up and get into it when we’re bored, or when we want to get some excitement from the pages of print. We should read God’s Word because learning about our Creator, understanding His love for His prized creation (us), Him wanting and desiring to give us that abundant life of hope in Him, and being able to share His love with everyone that they may in turn learn to love likewise are some of the characteristics and attributes as to why we read His Word. Sure, we’ll read about turmoil, dysfunction of families, immoral behaviors, greed, anger, dishonesty, all of these and more are mentioned time and again throughout His Word. But we read about them to gain the wisdom, the understanding and the knowledge to help keep ourselves from falling into these situations, these emotions and these behaviors. So our intent is to learn, to absorb truth, and apply that truth to our daily lives. That’s why we should read as long as it takes to get out it what we are intentionally looking for: wisdom, knowledge, understanding and truth! Mind you, sometimes once you get started  and you’re getting a lot from the Word you’ll not want to put it down. Just saying . . . .
