Read Your Word This Morning?

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 30, 2016

Breakfast of ChampionsI have to ask myself this question: Am I getting what I’m seeking when I read the Word of God? I know oftentimes I make mention of how much I read, how often I read and why I read. But the most relevant question is am I getting it and what am I doing with that knowledge? Well, I’m very happy to say that I am truly getting more than I ever thought I’d get. The Word of God becomes more real to me the more I read it. It’s the life of becoming Christ-like, imitating Christ in every aspect of my character. I want to learn how to relate to people, how I can serve others, and meet the needs of those who are less fortunate than many. As I continue to read about how Christ our Savior continued to show the world what love is because He is love, I see and desire that compassion He has for people everywhere no matter the ethnicity, cultural background or gender. His Word teaches me daily as I read that His love reaches everyone and that’s what He desires in us as His people. The greatest commandment of all is to love God with all of hearts, minds and souls, then to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. Who then is our neighbor? Everyone that is outside of ourselves whether they live down the street, in another state or another country. That’s what I’m seeking after, the same love and compassion Christ showed me so that I may in return give that love to those who are seeking the same. I’m satisfied with what I’m getting from God’s Word-wisdom, understanding, guidance, instruction, peace and the love of God. The more I go after that, the more He fills my cup as it overflows with His goodness and graces.

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

A Psalm of Praise For You This Day!

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 30, 2016

praiseGOD THE HELP OF THOSE WHO SEEK HIM

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.”

My Daily Devotion

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 30, 2016

Devotions“Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.  Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”  –   JAMES   4:1-6

Today’s Point of Focus:

Let’s rid ourselves of pride. It has no place in our lives, our families or our marriage.

A Psalm of Praise For You This Day!

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 29, 2016

praiseGOD COMING IN JUDGMENT

“Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before Him; Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. Give to the Lord, O families of the peoples, Give to the Lord glory and strength. Give to the Lord the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come into His courts. Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth. Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns; The world also is firmly established, It shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples righteously.” Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; Let the sea roar, and all its fullness; Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the Lord. For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, And the peoples with His truth.”

My Daily Devotion

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 29, 2016

Devotions“Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God; for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.”   –   1 THESSALONIANS  4:1-8

Today’s Point of Focus:

Let purity be among your members with purpose and intention.

A Psalm of Praise For You This Day!

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 28, 2016

praisePRAY TO GOD IN TIME OF TROUBLE

“Vindicate me, O God, And plead my cause against an ungodly nation; Oh, deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man! For You are the God of my strength; Why do You cast me off? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? Oh, send out Your light and Your truth! Let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your tabernacle. Then I will go to the altar of God, To God my exceeding joy; And on the harp I will praise You, O God, my God. Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.

My Daily Devotion

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 28, 2016

Devotions“In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God. Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations—“Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” which all concern things which perish with the using—according to the commandments and doctrines of men? These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.  –   COLOSSIANS   2:11-23

Today’s Point of Focus:

Christ’s death on the Cross, His resurrection justifies our right to live in Him and through Him always.

Read Your Word This Morning?

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 27, 2016

Breakfast of ChampionsAs I read God’s Word, I give Him Praise, Honor and Glory for His Word because every time I get into His Word there is revelation about something or someone. I thank God for revealing how awesome and true His precepts are, His commandments are so righteous, and that every word pertains to every once and cell of my being. Out all the books that I have ever read, nothing has ever come close to being so life-giving, so full of wisdom and power as the Word of God! From cover to cover, from the beginning to the end, His Word stays and remains true in all its fullness. I praise God for loving me so much that he died for me when I was yet still in my sinful nature. I honor God because His statutes and precepts remain faithful true to this very hour. And I glory in the Father because He is Omnipresent, Omniscient, and Omnipotent in His being, His character and His deity. I see all of this when I pick up His Word and read about who He is and what He desires of me, a man of God. He shows me in His Word my purpose in this life, and that is to bring glory to His Name and to the kingdom of God.

My Daily Devotion

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 27, 2016

Devotions“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.   –   1  JOHN  4:1-6

Today’s Point of Focus:

Know the Spirit of the Lord for yourself. Receive Him with joy, gladness and certainty!

Recovery Tip For This Week

Posted by Men of Redemption on September 26, 2016

Road_Recovery

Don’t Cast Blame on Anyone for Your Struggles

You’re doing well in your recovery, and everything is going according to your plan with consistency and committed efforts on all fronts. Then comes along those who are watching and observing your efforts and they begin to speak doubt and criticism over all that you’re doing. You’re distraught, surprised and even angry because you thought they would be in support of you  in all that you’re doing. Not! They start denying your commitment and really begin to rattle you emotionally and you feel disenchanted, blaming them for how you feel. You start to declare that if they weren’t saying those things you wouldn’t be struggling as you are. Or you might even go as far as saying it’s their fault because of this behavior or action. Stop it! Stop blaming others for your behaviors or actions because they are not in support of you and what you’re doing in recovery. No one is to blame for you for what you’re doing. You’ve made some poor choices, some bad mistakes that have affected others, and you’ve acknowledged it. Now, you’re working diligently to bring some amends to damaged relationships and it will take time. But never cast blame on others when they criticize your efforts or even question your ability during this process of recovery. You’ve accepted responsibility for your actions and behaviors. You’ve repented and asked for forgiveness, now the process of healing and renewal of mind and heart begins and you have to understand that those who have not forgiven you yet are still hurting and that will take some time. So blaming others while you’re in the process is not the right thing to do. This is called “Blame-Shifting” in recovery terminology. Looking to blame other can send you spiraling back into your mess and it’ll be even harder to get back out again! When you feel the pressures of recovery, don’t cast blame, just speak to yourself . . . .

“Lord God, I realize the pain and hurt that I have cause family, friends, co-workers and others. I’m sorry for making those choices and decisions. But I pray that you would strengthen me to not blame others but move forward in my recovery as you renew my mind and transform my heart that I may please you Father God.”

Then read this . . . . Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”  –   PSALM  19:14
