Restoring a Life of Purity – One Day at a Time

Another Year-So What Are You Believing God For in 2017?

Posted by Men of Redemption on January 2, 2017

Welcome 2017!                     Crown of Thorns in place of letter O[1]

We have been blessed once again to see another time in this age where life again is granted to us to try to get it right. Some of us had many challenges that we overcame in 2016 and we’re grateful for that overcoming. Others had struggled with decisions, choices that brought uncertainty, calamity, misdirection to their lives and they’re still reeling in those consequences. Then there are those of us who prospered, who met expectations and were successful because they committed themselves from day one to the end of the year. Either way, whatever we had set out to do in 2016, whether you were successful or not, our Heavenly Father has given us another opportunity to get it right, to learn to trust Him in well doing, and learn from what we’ve been through the past year. So now, the question: What are you believing God for in 2017?

First of all, let’s get rid of all the clichés because we’ve probably worn them out enough every year we enter another year:”Out with old, in with the new”; It’s gonna be a brand new year”; “I’m gonna do things different this year” and so on. I’ll be the first to say I’ve worn those out myself. Let’s be realistic-what are we believing God for that will be different, that we want God to do in us and through that we won’t repeat what we’ve gone through already? I believe those of us who trust in the Lord ought to refrain from clichés and really understand that God has so much more for us that we need to stop looking at our wants, desires, and truly focus on what He wants for us.

We can get all caught up in blessings and favor because that’s what many children of God want, and rightfully so. But God wants more than that for us-He wants us to know Him in a more real, intimate relationship. We can go to God bringing our petitions(Heb. 4:16) and needs to Him letting Him know what we’d like to do different, the changes we’d like to make in our lives and careers, and improvement on our decisions and choices. Those desires are perfectly good intentions. But what do we say about believing God for a closer walk with Him” What do we say about learning to love others regardless of what they may think of us or what we believe, and who we believe in? And what about trusting God more for dependence upon Him in everything we do and stop depending on others or things? I know these may or may not be on your list but can we take some time out and seriously look at where we’re at in this life and begin to evaluate what we ought to believe God for? We all want to prosper; we all want to be better than what we were like last year; but if we have these wants, these desires, we  must first understand who is the only one that can make those desires, those wants, reality and guide us in living successfully in His sight. We can have all that we desire but trusting God in all things is the key to successful living, and believing that He will do what He desires for us. Have you asked God “What is it that you, Lord God, desire for me to do or be in 2017?” He already knows our wants and our needs so why wouldn’t we want to go before Him and not only listen to Him for guidance and instruction but also maybe there’s something He wants you to do in 2017 that you never thought of. As children of God, the Lord will take care of and grant His people the desires of our hearts, but we must trust that His promises and care will be fulfilled. Let believing God for a better relationship with Him, coming to know Him in a more intimate way be one of the first, if not the first thing we do for this new year. No need to worry about other things, God’s got you already!

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”  –  Matthew  6:31-34
