Regaining Trust While In Recovery

Posted by Men of Redemption on December 11, 2017

Image result for good health WORKING ON TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF SPIRITUALLY, PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY AND RELATIONALLY WILL HELP REGAIN TRUST

You have the process written down. It’s embedded onto your heart, downloaded in your mind and you’re walking it out daily as the Lord God blesses you with life and ability. That process I’m talking about is your recovery. You need to have that process a part of your every day life just like breathing is a part of us to stay alive. Now, as consistency is developed, begin to work on these four areas to show that you are serious about regaining trust: the Spiritual, Physical, Mental and Relational person you were created to be.

Spiritual –

Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.Image result for reading and studying the bible– 1 Corinthians 3:16, 17 (NASB)

As we continue working the process, we need to have a strong desire to growing in God’s Word, to understand who He is and what our purpose in life is, as well as live and walk in the fullness of His glory. That can be a variety of ways we can do this. A personal, daily Bible reading is a good start. If you not familiar on where and how to start reading, begin with one of the Gospels-Matthew, Mark, Luke or John-either one will give great understanding on how each book saw Jesus, who He is and what His purpose was when He was here on earth. Understanding His life, His teachings and His instructions for us will enlighten and strengthen us with wisdom, knowledge and intentionality as we commit our ways to His ways and become like-minded and Christ-like in all things.

Physical –Image result for exercising

Try to include doing something that involves exercising, running, walking or jogging. Having something physical in our recovery will not only provide us with energy and stability, but it will also strengthen our desire, our stamina and our focus on running the race that is set before us (Recovery). Doing something physical is healthy and invigorating, keeping us from getting bored with repetitive structure. And from a health conscious perspective, exercising will help build endurance and provide that self-care treatment we so desperately need. It also helps us to lessen stress and fatigue factors while we do our recovery. We need to have good stewardship over our recovery, and that means knowing when to activate that self-care when it’s needed and not allow passivity, isolation or procrastination to have place in our recovery.

Mental –

Image result for mental focus

“And then he told me, My grace is enough; it’s all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9a (MSG)

What do you like to focus on? Do you enjoy reading? Art? Museums? The beach? How and what we focus on helps prepare us mentally for everything that crosses our minds. Our thoughts and mindsets are key to how successful our days, weeks and months turn out. I realize that sometimes we can get into a rut or two, slowing us down, feeling unproductive and like our recovery has come to a complete stop. But encouraging ourselves, trusting in the process, and staying focused will strengthen our mental approach to recovery and assist us staying the course no matter how rough it may appear.

  Relational –Image result for relational

Understand something that’s very factual in and of itself: We were made for relationship. If we want to regain trust in our marriages we must learn how to develop honest, true and long-lasting relationship. We need to give ourselves permission to develop friendships with others. It’s part of the feeling of belonging, not missing out on being with community and knowing that we are loved despite our struggles. God’s Word teaches us and instructs us that we are to have life “abundantly” which means we are to have life with quality and quantity. We should desire to make and develop friendships a priority. Our healing depends upon these developing friendships.

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” – John 10:10 (KJV)

So if regaining trust is part of your plan for a better marriage, for new and improved relationships that will last and be meaningful, as well as for your legacy to reflect on and have a testimony to brag about, then begin to incorporate new strengths in these four areas so that those who see your recovery can and will testify that verifiable recovery efforts were on display as lived it out loud.

My Daily Devotion – My Quiet Time With God

BE STRONG AND BE OF GOOD COURAGE

Today’s Reading: Deuteronomy 31:1-8 . . . . Image result for be strong and courageous

Then Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel. And he said to them: “I am one hundred and twenty years old today. I can no longer go out and come in. Also the Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross over this Jordan.’ The Lord your God Himself crosses over before you; He will destroy these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess them. Joshua himself crosses over before you, just as the Lord has said. And the Lord will do to them as He did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites and their land, when He destroyed them. The Lord will give them over to you, that you may do to them according to every commandment which I have commanded you. Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Then Moses called Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and of good courage, for you must go with this people to the land which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall cause them to inherit it. And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”
