    MY QUESTION ABOUT RECOVERY IS . . . .

“My new support group has a workbook and a journal. I’ve never been one to journal and looking through it it involves a lot of writing. I’m not a writer so how can I understand the purpose of what’s required of me? Your group is asking you to do something that you’ve never tried to […]

Peace and Purpose Through A Psalm

PEACE: RELIEF FROM TORMENTORS Image result for relief from tormentors

Psalm 56:1-13 . . . .

“Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; Fighting all day he oppresses me. My enemies would hound me all day, For there are many who fight against me, O Most High. Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me? All day they twist my words; All their thoughts are against me for evil. They gather together, They hide, they mark my steps When they lie in wait for my life. Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God! You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book? When I cry out to You, Then my enemies will turn back; This I know, because God is for me. In God (I will praise His word), In the Lord (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? Vows made to You are binding upon me, O God; I will render praises to You, For You have delivered my soul from death. Have You not kept my feet from falling, That I may walk before God In the light of the living?”

CHRIST IS OUR PATTERN Image result for Christ is our pattern

2 Corinthians 8:8-15 . . . .

“I speak not by commandment, but I am testing the sincerity of your love by the diligence of others. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich. And in this I give advice: It is to your advantage not only to be doing what you began and were desiring to do a year ago, but now you also must complete the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to desire it, so there also may be a completion out of what you have. For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have. For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened; but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may supply their lack, that their abundance also may supply your lack—that there may be equality. As it is written, “He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack.””

THE THORN IN THE FLESH Image result for thorn in the flesh

From The Book of 2 Corinthians 12:1-10 . . . .

“I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— was caught up to paradise and heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell. I will boast about a man like that, but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses. Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say, or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

CHARACTER OF THE NEW MAN Image result for new man in Christ

From The Book of Colossians 3:12-17 . . . .

“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

THANKFULNESS AND PRAYER Image result for thankfulness and prayer

From The Book of Philippians 1: 3-11 . . . .

“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace. For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ. And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”

DON’T WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING Related image

From The Book of Luke 12:22-34 . . . .

Then He said to His disciples, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? “And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Change Comes From Within in Recovery

Posted by Men of Redemption on April 23, 2018

HOW ARE THESE THREE CONSTANTS WORKING FOR YOU IN YOUR RECOVERY? Image result for man's conduct

PT. lll: CONDUCT

Our Conversation has improved. Our Character continues to develop and mature. Now, how does our behavior display those two constants as we manifest our existence as a human being? We’ve worked on ourselves from within. We’ve allowed the changes of mindsets, heart transformation, and we’re believing that all that we’ve done, and are doing, will result in good Conduct. After months, even years for many of us, we’re finally seeing a change in behavior, attitude, and perspective as we move forward in our recovery after putting in some serious work and commitment to change all of that. But how does all of this fit together in my recovery and be constant and consistent so that I can maintain a healthy life of purity and wholeness?

When we have gone through a process that has brought inward transformation, this means something has taken place within us that has changed everything in our being and created newness of life with God’s intentions and purpose at the forefront. This is what God’s Word says about newness in Him . . . .

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”  –  Psalm 51: 10-12 (NIV)

When we allow God’s divine healing and purpose to invade our lives He makes the changes necessary to clean up our lives and put us in right perspective with His desires and intentions. Thus, it changes how we look at life and see what’s really important to us without all the interference of the addictive mindset and all that comes with it. Our mind and heart are intentionally focused and geared towards the things of God. We don’t worry about what others think or assume about us because all that matters is what God thinks and who He says we are! This understanding and perspective will infiltrate our thought process and we’ll begin to make better decisions, better choices, and use wisdom in determining what’s best for us. All of this will manifest itself in our conduct as we submit to God and the leading of the Holy Spirit. This process will produce a healthier, more transparent display of who we are with honest intentions and no hidden agenda. We will continue to be more genuine and sincere at all times as we allow our conversation, our character, and conduct to be molded and shaped by God and what His Word says. So my point is about change happens from within first in recovery. We can attempt to do everything we can on the outside by going to every support group, reading all the books on recovery we can, or seeing a counselor once or twice a week. Those things are very helpful and have their place in recovery, but if there is not a desire to change from within, on the inside, our efforts for change and making things right will not succeed no matter how hard or how much we do.

“For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly toward you.”  2 Corinthians 1:12

Peace and Purpose in A Psalm

PEACE . . . . FAITH IN TIMES OF DISTRESS Image result for Psalm 6

Psalm 6:1-10 . . . .

O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger, Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are troubled. My soul also is greatly troubled; But You, O Lord—how long? Return, O Lord, deliver me! Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake! or in death there is no remembrance of You; In the grave who will give You thanks? I am weary with my groaning; All night I make my bed swim; I drench my couch with my tears. My eye wastes away because of grief; It grows old because of all my enemies. Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping. The Lord has heard my supplication; The Lord will receive my prayer. Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled; Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly.

IMMORALITY DEFILES THE CHURCH Image result for immorality

From The Book of 1 Corinthians 5:1-8 . . . .

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles—that a man has his father’s wife! And you are puffed up and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you. For I indeed, as absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged (as though I were present) him who has so done this deed. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
