WORDS OF WISDOM – THE POWER OF PROVERBS

THE EVIL OF DECEPTION

“He who hates, disguises it with his lips, and lays up deceit within himself; When he speaks kindly, do not believe him, for there are seven abominations in his heart; Though his hatred is covered by deceit,
his wickedness will be revealed before the assembly.”

MY MORNING DEVOTION – MAKING GOD MY FIRST DAILY PRIORITY

STAYING ACCOUNTABLE, EVEN UNTO THE END

From The Book of Daniel 3:8-18 . . . .

“Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and accused the Jews. They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, live forever! You, O king, have made a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the gold image; and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have not paid due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up.” Then Nebuchadnezzar, in rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king. Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up? Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?” Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”

Have you made a stand for something and refuse to budge or change your stance no matter what the consequences are? Or are you one of those who begins to melt when the fire starts to get hot? We can learn a lot from Daniel and his three Hebrew friends. After being taken captive by the Babylonians, Jerusalem was at the mercy of King Nebuchadnezzar. the King wanted Daniel and his friends to denounce their God, bow down and worship the idols that he created and threatened them with their lives if the refuse to bow down. But Daniel and the three Hebrews stood their ground, proclaimed their beliefs and refused to bow down. How about you? Have you made a stand in your recovery, declaring what you won’t bow down to anymore or allow that addictive influence to penetrate the very being of your heart and change your stance in life? Are you moved by the threat of your very life to obey the very thing you are working so hard to avoid and not allowing to ensnare you again? If we know the God that’s in us, the Almighty God that we serve and who He truly is, then nothing can or ever will separate us from the love and grace of our God (Romans 8:38-39).

WORDS OF WISDOM – THE POWER OF PROVERBS

A HEART OF HUMILITY

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.”

GOD’S PERFECT KNOWLEDGE OF MAN

From The Book of Psalm 139:1-6 . . . .

“O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.”

David had written this Psalm his adulteress affair with Bathsheba. He knew that God knew his heart and what was in him. God knows everything about man. There’s nothing we can hide or conceal from the Lord God. He knows and understands our feelings, our hurts, our pains, so it would make real sense for us to admit our lack or denial, and be transparent and honest in everything we do in this life. How can we hide from God? He’s everywhere in all things.

PUT YOUR TRUST IN THE LORD

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.”

MY MORNING DEVOTION – MAKING GOD MY FIRST DAILY PRIORITY

DON’T WORRY, JUST SEEK GOD

From The Book of Matthew 6:31-34 . . . .

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear? For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

We spend a lot of time consumed with choices regarding our live-what to wear, where to go, what to eat, should I buy this, or what is my next car. These are daily thoughts that occupy our thoughts more than we want to admit. And being in recovery we have those same kinds of questions, only more direct about dealing with commitment, denial, honesty, and transparency. Should I follow through and complete this group? Lord, I don’t think I have a problem so should have to go through this process of healing? I’m worried about whether or not I’m going to be accepted back into my church when I complete this group so should I return or seek out going to another church? No matter what your questions or concerns are, as children of God in recovery we ought to adhere to His Word and not worry about those things and begin to seek Him first and foremost in all things, and that includes decisions and choices about our daily lives and ongoing activities. All the things we want in life, if according to God’s will, we can have if we place priority in our relationship with God Almighty. Let’s stop worrying about things that are beyond our control because we don’t even know for sure of our next breath of life. Let’s seek God wholeheartedly, and rid ourselves of passivity and procrastination.

WORDS OF WISDOM – THE POWER OF PROVERBS

WISDOM’S BEGINNING

“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was ever an earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills, I was brought forth; While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, or the primal dust of the world. When He prepared the heavens, I was there, when He drew a circle on the face of the deep, when He established the clouds above, when He strengthened the fountains of the deep, when He assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters would not transgress His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him, rejoicing in His inhabited world, and my delight was with the sons of men.”

BUILDING ON THAT ROCK FOUNDATION

From The Book of Luke 6:46-49 . . . .

“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

Have you ever wondered when the storms of life come our way and we’re not able to stand and fight through it? We get weak and start to bend or compromise in our decisions or situations then we end up crashing or falling altogether. Well, that result has a lot to do with the foundation we’re built on. If we have a mindset that structured on selfishness, building up our own ego and depending on the intelligence of this life, chances are we’re going to have the same results that the world says you’ll have. Who are we depending on? What is our belief system telling us? In this life, we’re going to have problems. We’re going to go through some storms and hurricanes that will try to take us out. If we aren’t built on the foundation of the solid rock, Jesus Christ, we will be tossed to and fro and influenced with every kind of situation that’s geared towards making us unstable and indecisive in all of our ways. We need to adhere to listening to the Lord, doing what His Word says, and trusting Him through our storms, even in the midst of them.
