TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL READING

Posted by Men of Redemption on January 31, 2019

OUR PASSAGE FOR TODAY: 1 PETER 4:1-6 . . . .

“Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

RECOVERY REFLECTION: Praise God we’ve been set free from our previous lifestyles that led to those addictive behaviors that caused so much collateral damage to those love and care about. God’s mercy and grace has brought us out of the doldrums of hell and into eternal and everlasting life with Him in glory. There is no need for us to desire to return to that season of our lives as we have hopefully moved on and embraced the loving freedom and grace of God’s joy and peace for our lives. Let’s be grateful and thankful to God always and forever!

WORDS OF WISDOM – WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT . . . .

WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT . . . .

THE WISDOM AND PERIL OF ADULTERY

“My son, pay attention to my wisdom; Lend your ear to my understanding, That you may preserve discretion, And your lips may keep knowledge. For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey, And her mouth is smoother than oil; But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death, Her steps lay hold of hell. Lest you ponder her path of life—Her ways are unstable; You do not know them. Therefore hear me now, my children, And do not depart from the words of my mouth. Remove your way far from her, And do not go near the door of her house, Lest you give your honor to others, And your years to the cruel one; Lest aliens be filled with your wealth, And your labors go to the house of a foreigner; And you mourn at last, When your flesh and your body are consumed, And say: “How I have hated instruction, And my heart despised correction! I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me! I was on the verge of total ruin, In the midst of the assembly and congregation.”

TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL READING

Posted by Men of Redemption on January 30, 2019

OUR PASSAGE FOR TODAY: EPHESIANS 5:15-21 . . . .

“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.”

RECOVERY REFLECTION: along with the renewing of our minds and transformation of our hearts, we should also be learning how to walk in the wisdom of Father God. His Word instructs us on how to persevere, how to conduct ourselves in areas of character, socializing and even in celebrating one another. One of the things we ought to do is always give thanks and praise to God because of what He has done for us in our recovery, what He has brought us through. Some of us have forgotten that His mercy and grace continues to operate in and around us while yet we are still in recovery. We can not take His love, grace, and mercy for granted. God has done far more us than we ‘ve given Him credit for. So let’s walk in His wisdom and acknowledge Him in all things because He is so merciful and good!

TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL READING

Posted by Men of Redemption on January 29, 2019

OUR PASSAGE FOR TODAY: 2 CHRONICLES 20:18-30 . . . .

“Jehoshaphat bowed down with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down in worship before the Lord. Then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice. Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.” After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.” As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. The Ammonites and Moabites rose up against the men from Mount Seir to destroy and annihilate them. After they finished slaughtering the men from Seir, they helped to destroy one another. When the men of Judah came to the place that overlooks the desert and looked toward the vast army, they saw only dead bodies lying on the ground; no one had escaped. So Jehoshaphat and his men went to carry off their plunder, and they found among them a great amount of equipment and clothing and also articles of value—more than they could take away. There was so much plunder that it took three days to collect it. On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Berakah, where they praised the Lord. This is why it is called the Valley of Berakah to this day. Then, led by Jehoshaphat, all the men of Judah and Jerusalem returned joyfully to Jerusalem, for the Lord had given them cause to rejoice over their enemies. They entered Jerusalem and went to the temple of the Lord with harps and lyres and trumpets. The fear of God came on all the surrounding kingdoms when they heard how the Lord had fought against the enemies of Israel. And the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side.”

RECOVERY REFLECTION: The Lord God will always have a plan to defend His people. In recovery God will always have direction, purpose, and instruction for us as we submit to the process of healing and transparency. We have to submit ourselves under His Authority and guidance and let go of our thinking. That’s what gotten us into our issues from the start. We have to trust God and His omnipotent power and glory to see us through our recovery and not lean to our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5,6).

WORDS OF WISDOM – WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT . . . .

WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT . . . .

OBTAINING WISDOM AT ALL COSTS

“Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. For I too was a son to my father, still tender, and cherished by my mother. Then he taught me, and he said to me, “Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live. Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you. She will give you a garland to grace your head and present you with a glorious crown.”

TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL READING

Posted by Men of Redemption on January 28, 2019

 OUR PASSAGE FOR TODAY: 2 CHRONICLES 20:1-17 . . . .

“It happened after this that the people of Moab with the people of Ammon, and others with them besides the Ammonites, came to battle against Jehoshaphat. Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from Syria; and they are in Hazazon Tamar” (which is En Gedi). And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. So Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord. Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court, and said: “O Lord God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You? Are You not our God, who drove out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel, and gave it to the descendants of Abraham Your friend forever? And they dwell in it, and have built You a sanctuary in it for Your name, saying, ‘If disaster comes upon us—sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this temple and in Your presence (for Your name is in this temple), and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save.’ And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir—whom You would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them—here they are, rewarding us by coming to throw us out of Your possession which You have given us to inherit. O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” Now all Judah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children, stood before the Lord. Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly. And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel. You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”

RECOVERY REFLECTION: How do you respond when you receive news of overwhelming heartache or trouble in your camp in the midst of your recovery? Our report could be everyone that we have caused pain, hurt, and mistrust to because of our behaviors and actions has decided to not support us and tell everyone about our problems and issues. How fearful and defaming that could be while in our stages of shame, guilt, and suffering. Just like King Jehoshaphat, we can cry out to God and acknowledge His saving mercy and grace, His faithfulness in all things because of who He is!
