    MY QUESTION ABOUT RECOVERY IS . . . .

“My new support group has a workbook and a journal. I’ve never been one to journal and looking through it it involves a lot of writing. I’m not a writer so how can I understand the purpose of what’s required of me? Your group is asking you to do something that you’ve never tried to […]

TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL READING

Posted by Men of Redemption on February 28, 2019

OUR PASSAGE THIS MORNING: COLOSSIANS 2:1-10 . . . .

“For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words. For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.”

RECOVERY REFLECTION: Every day can be a challenge for me in recovery there is so much information out there about almost everything. I’m reading books, listening to sermons, hearing podcasts of some of the most influential speakers on addictive behavior that are out there. But there are those whom I hear and see who just don’t make sense to me. I know what I’ve been taught and that I’m grounded in God’s Word. I can not and will not be easily persuaded by vain philosophies and twisted theories with the sole purpose to change my perspective in what I believe. That can happen if I’m not staying focused in what I’ve been taught and brought up in. Compromising and stretching the truth has spread throughout our society and culture but I must hold on to the infallible Word of God always.

TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL READING

Posted by Men of Redemption on February 27, 2019

OUR PASSAGE THIS MORNING: HEBREWS 4:11-13 . . . .

Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

RECOVERY REFLECTION: I learned the hard way about how God’s Word brings exposure to the hidden things in my life. Through exposure, God Word made known the behaviors that were in my life that cause so much damage, hurt, and pain to those I love and cared about. And I realized that there are no amount of apologies that could every redo what I’ve done. But I have to look unto God and humble myself, be grateful for exposure and His healing grace that I can truly face my faults and begin to make amends by allowing Him to renew and transform my mind and heart towards Him and those that I have offended. My intentions have changed as well as my thoughts because I know one day I must answer to God for all that I have done, good and bad.

TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL READING

Posted by Men of Redemption on February 26, 2019

OUR PASSAGE THIS MORNING: COLOSSIANS 3:12-17 . . . .

“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

RECOVERY REFLECTION: As I move forward in life and in my recovery, God’s Word instructs me to let love, His Love, reign in my life and in everything I do. Because He first loved me, having saved me twice; once for salvation and the other from my addictive behaviors and bondage, for I am eternally grateful and thankful that someone loves me that much to forgive me for what I’ve done to them, looked beyond my faults and saw my need to be loved and the need for a Savior. On my knees daily I thank God for healings, for blessings, and for each day He gives me life. Now, my purpose is to share that love, that grace, and that thankfulness with others that they too might receive His glorious favor in their lives as well.

WORDS OF WISDOM – WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT IT

Posted by Men of Redemption on February 25, 2019

WHAT GOD’S WORD SAY ABOUT . . . .

DISCRETION

“My son, keep my words, and treasure my commands within you. Keep my commands and live, and my law as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart. Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call understanding your nearest kin, that they may keep you from the immoral woman, from the seductress who flatters with her words.”

TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL READING

Posted by Men of Redemption on February 25, 2019

OUR PASSAGE THIS MORNING: LUKE 14:25-35 . . . .

“Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’ “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples. “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out. “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.””

RECOVERY REFLECTION: When I began my recovery several years ago, I sat down and wrote out a plan of what I wanted to do as far as restructuring my life, adding boundaries, disciplines, and eradicating certain things, activities, and relationships that I believe would be a hindrance instead of edifying me. I didn’t know what that would look like but I had to trust God in that plan and believe that God would see me through it. That very plan cost me a lot but the price I was willing to pay to begin to walk in purity and freedom was well worth to me! One of my goals was to make amends to those I’ve hurt and caused damage to with my behaviors. They were observers of my plan as I allowed God to transform and renew my mind and heart with His guidance, direction and purpose. They saw that change in me with their own eyes. I want to continue to walk in freedom and purity and I will continue my plan until Jesus returns.

WORDS OF WISDOM – WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT IT

Posted by Men of Redemption on February 22, 2019

WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT . . . .

UNDERSTANDING THE WAY OF THE LORD GOD

“Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end. Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart. Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it. Incline my heart to Your testimonies, and not to covetousness. Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way. Establish Your word to Your servant, who is devoted to fearing You. Turn away my reproach which I dread, for Your judgments are good. Behold, I long for Your precepts; Revive me in Your righteousness.”
