    MY QUESTION ABOUT RECOVERY IS . . . .

“My new support group has a workbook and a journal. I’ve never been one to journal and looking through it it involves a lot of writing. I’m not a writer so how can I understand the purpose of what’s required of me? Your group is asking you to do something that you’ve never tried to […]

WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT . . . . LIVING FOR GOD “So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin. You won’t spend the rest of your […]

WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT IT! – WORDS OF WISDOM

WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT . . . .

SAFETY FROM ENEMIES

“Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed by. I will cry out to God Most High, to God who performs all things for me. He shall send from heaven and save me; He reproaches the one who would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth His mercy and His truth. My soul is among lions; I lie among the sons of men who are set on fire, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above all the earth. They have prepared a net for my steps; My soul is bowed down; They have dug a pit before me; Into the midst of it they themselves have fallen. Selah. My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise. Awake, my glory! Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing to You among the nations. For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens, and Your truth unto the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above all the earth.

TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL READING . . . .

Posted by Men of Redemption on April 3, 2019

OUR PASSAGE COMES FROM:

JUDGES 6:11-22 . . . .

“Now the Angel of the Lord came and sat under the terebinth tree which was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites. And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!” Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.” Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?” So he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” And the Lord said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man.” Then he said to Him, “If now I have found favor in Your sight, then show me a sign that it is You who talk with me. Do not depart from here, I pray, until I come to You and bring out my offering and set it before You.” And He said, “I will wait until you come back.” So Gideon went in and prepared a young goat, and unleavened bread from an ephah of flour. The meat he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot; and he brought them out to Him under the terebinth tree and presented them. The Angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the unleavened bread and lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth.” And he did so. Then the Angel of the Lord put out the end of the staff that was in His hand, and touched the meat and the unleavened bread; and fire rose out of the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread. And the Angel of the Lord departed out of his sight. Now Gideon perceived that He was the Angel of the Lord. So Gideon said, “Alas, O Lord God! For I have seen the Angel of the Lord face to face.””

RECOVERY REFLECTION: Do you ever have those moments where you feel inadequate or not capable of doing something or achieving a task that you think you are unable to handle? This is exactly how Gideon felt when God spoke to him about a task God wanted him to accept. Gideon gave every excuse possible to show that he wasn’t capable or that he was qualified. Much like a lot of us in recovery when we see the challenge to overcome our struggles and we see the process but feel we can’t complete it because of various reasons; it’s going to take too long; I don’t know if I can do all of that; or this is too much for to handle. One thing I’ve learned about the Lord God when He asks me to do something – “God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called!” God will prepare and equip us for anything and everything He needs us to do. That’s some word for you right there!
