WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT IT – WORDS OF WISDOM

WHAT GOD’S WORD SAYS ABOUT . . . .

THE CALL OF WISDOM

“Wisdom calls aloud outside; She raises her voice in the open squares. She cries out in the chief concourses, at the openings of the gates in the city She speaks her words: “How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? For scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge. Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you. Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded, because you disdained all my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, when your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. “Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, they would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled to the full with their own fancies. For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil.”

TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL READING . . . .

Posted by Men of Redemption on April 15, 2019

OUR PASSAGE COMES FROM:

THE BOOK OF GENESIS 39:1-10 . . . .

“Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there. The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand. So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority. So it was, from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field. Thus he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.” But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be with her.”

RECOVERY REFLECTION: When I look at how Joseph dealt with temptation that encouraged me tremendously because that’s how I desire to be in all my challenges with temptation. One of the main reasons I’m in recovery is because of the choices I made regarding the temptations in my own life starting back when I was a child. Temptation is not the proiblem or the issue. The problem is my reaction to temptation and how I allow that reaction to resonate in my life. My hope is that I continue to develop my relationship with the Lord God in such a way that my faith, my strength, and my desire is to be led by the Holy Spirit to overcome and learn from those experiences and challenges I face daily. While at work, when I’m out and about running errands or interacting with people, even while I’m at church and ministry functions, the challenge of temptation is real and it doesn’t play favorites or is fair. No matter what we do, where we work or what we involve ourselves in we will face temptation always. The key to overcoming temptation is staying rooted and grounded in God’s Word and trusting God that He will protect and provide a way out so that we will not fall to its affects just as Joseph did in Genesis.
