WHAT’S YOUR QUESTION ON RECOVERY?

Posted by Men of Redemption on June 8, 2017

MY QUESTION IS . . . .

“I’ve told a couple of my friends about my problem with sexual addiction. They tell me that it’s not a problem and that every man goes through this behavior. I don’t see anything wrong with it. So why do I need to get some help for something every man is going through but they’re not getting as well?”

Well, if you know you have a problem already, then why are you consulting your friends and being influenced by their opinions? Didn’t mean to answer a question with a question. Bad journalism! My friend, if you know you have a problem, talk to someone who is experienced in this issue of sexual integrity. You need to understand the complexity and collateral damage this type of behavior can cause. With you thinking, and probably believing, there is nothing wrong with “A little extra curricular activity” as some might say, but the effects of this behavior haven’t really shown itself to you just yet. These behaviors can and will destroy relationships, marriages and lives. Not to mention they also can bring on severe consequences that will result in major losses in many areas such as employment, material holdings, your home, as well as financial ruin. You don’t see it now, but if you don’t get some help in understanding what addictive behaviors can do, those realistic consequences will be upon so fast you’ll never know what hit you. Right now, you’ve probably haven’t lost anything or have been affected by the behaviors. Until the behaviors are dealt with, they will most assuredly build momentum to where you’ll be convinced that there isn’t anything wrong with it. The last thing you’ll want to do is listen and be influenced by those who have no idea what you’re going through. And I bet the guys you spoke to were single with no cares in the world because they’re going to do what they want. Getting some help about your problem, since you’ve already admitted it, is crucial in you understanding the problem on the grand scale of things. Addictive behaviors can lead to illegal activities such as crime, fraud and drugs. If pornography is already in the mix, it will eventually lead to rape and everything that comes with it. So when you say you see nothing wrong with it, please understand that a lot of men and women who have been convicted of sexual crimes who started out thinking exactly like you are. Be of good courage, begin to seek out some help in getting to know everything you can about your problem, then apply that help to you own life and I will guarantee you’ll change your perspectives on how you see this issue, and probably will make adjustments accordingly. I pray, and sincerely hope you do my friend, sincerely I do!

Read your Word This Morning?

Posted by Men of Redemption on April 19, 2017

KNOW THE WORD OF GOD FOR YOURSELVES AND STAY ROOTED IN HIS WORD.

We live in a world where rules and protocol changes every time the wind blows or the weather changes, and that’s more frequently than we desire. Someone is always coming up with new ideas, a better purpose for this, new technology. There’s nothing wrong with ingenuity I’m all for that and I get it. And a lot of what’s happening around us has influenced us in tremendous ways, some good and some bad. As a society we’re moving so fast that nothing ever has time to take root anymore. With that being said, where does the Word of God fit into this equation and how do I remain faithful to God’s Word with all this technology and creativity happening around me. I believe God’s Word clearly describes what we as children of the Most High God  what we ought to do-know His Word and stay rooted and grounded in that foundation. We can get radically influenced and caught up with society to the point where we forget about what God’s Word teaches up about knowing what He says about life and what goes on around us. We become enamored with technology in such a way that it interferes and even prevents us from spending needed and quality time in his Word. We tend to forget about making that effort and slowly drawn into the lure of modern influence really easily. This is where we, children of God, must a stand and not allow ourselves to be caught up and drawn away from God’s Word! I don’t have anything against advancement or technology, but we need boundaries; we need to understand that knowing God’s Word and staying rooted in His Word will help us not get to that point. I know for myself, I need His Word in my life every day, and I still make use of those things that are created to help me, to further me, but I also have to remember that without staying focused and rooted in God’s Word I can easily be influenced with those who want to influence me into whatever they are implementing or introducing. And it’s not just technology-its everything! It’s our thought process; its our lifestyles; it’s our perspectives; and most of all it’s can be our belief system! Staying grounded in the Word and having a foundation that’s cemented in God’s teaching on abundant living helps maintain our focus and also keeps us from philosophies, influences that are created intentionally to separate us from God’s Word. Be mindful and aware people of God!

My Daily Devotion

DevotionsToday’s Reading: Acts 1:4-8 says . . . .

“And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

The Holy Spirit has come, so are you a witness with power for Christ in your area of influence?

My Daily Devotion

Posted by Men of Redemption on June 13, 2016

Devotions“Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.  For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.   –   GENESIS  3:1-7

Today’s Point of Focus:

Be mindful of those who we allow to influence us. Not everyone has our best interest at heart.

Recovery Tip of the Week

Posted by Men of Redemption on May 23, 2016

Road_RecoveryTip for this week . . . . Negative Influences.

One of the hardest decisions to make while in recovery is knowing who is going to be there for you as you take this journey called recovery to heart. First of all, we’ll want those who understand the journey I’m on, who knows the pitfalls, the struggles and the potholes in life that I’m going to encounter. That person or persons will know exactly how to help me, to encourage me, what to say to me that will uplift my confidence when I don’t know what to do or I’m going through a bad season in my life. I don’t need those that don’t have the understanding of the struggle or how to overcome. It’s not your title, your position or your fame. It’s about surrounding myself with those who have overcome and still are overcoming daily that I can see and emulate their efforts, strive to be like-minded. Sometimes I just have to say thanks but no thanks to those individuals. The disappointing thing about it is, they may be people who are close to me like family, best friends, some church folk, even those that may appear to have the wisdom but not the understanding that I seek. It’s nothing personal, it’s just that in recovery, influence is critical. And if I’m going to have influence, I want the spirit-filled influence whose mind is stayed on the Lord.

“A man is gradually changed into the image of that which he loves. He who hath his portion in this world grows worldly. When a man gives himself to any pursuit he first of all molds it, and then it molds him.”

An Encouraging Quote

charles spurgeon

An unholy church! it is useless to the world, and of no esteem among men. It is an
abomination, hell’s laughter, heaven’s abhorrence. The worst evils which have ever
come upon the world have been brought upon her by an unholy church.
