START YOUR DAY OFF WITH GOD’S WORD!

Today’s Reading: Ephesians 4:17-32 . . .

“So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed. That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Read Your Word This Morning?

KEEP MOVING FORWARD: YOUR LIFE IS AHEAD OF YOU, NO REASON TO RETURN TO YOUR FORMER SELF.

This is probably one of the most problematic concerns most of us as Christians face when we become born again to experience new birth and newness of life in Christ: wanting and desiring to return to our old selves. At first, we are so excited about a new life in Christ Jesus-the change of heart, the renewing of our minds, transformation of old into new-all invigorating and anticipated to achieve. But when most of us realize that this new life isn’t easy because doing the right thing requires honesty, transparency, and vulnerability, that’s too much work for some. These efforts of disciplines, righteousness and holiness requires a person to leave his/her former self (dying to self) and allow the Holy Spirit to bring the change of life that can only come from God. It’s a genuine change that will destroy those old desires and replace them with the true character of Christ and His love for one another. But when we find ourselves having to “submit” to something that will bring change from within, and the patience it brings in the transformation process, we discover that our patience level aren’t that high so we want to resort to going back to what we are accustomed to being or doing-and that’s going back to our old selves. We liked the behaviors because it didn’t cost us anything. We love the exciting things of taking risks no matter who it hurts or why. That life we had, which was filled with much sin and turmoil, dishonesty and greed. Why would we want to return to such a life when we have been introduced to a life of purity and holiness through Jesus Christ? Is that former lifestyle we had more exciting than the newness of life in Christ? To some, it is. They have the relationship with that former life and it’s hard to break up with our first love. But that’s where the Love of Christ comes in and replace that desire that will radically change that taste for the excitement of the world and bring us peace, joy, the kind of life that Christ promises is more abundant and rewarding. Christ will show us who we are in Him, His destiny for our life, and walk right beside us every step of the way until we reach that desired pinnacle of our lives. So when God shows us our future, He will also show us the path to get there, and He did say it won’t be easy. Why? Because there are things we must allow Him to eradicate from our lives-relationship ties to things, people, places, areas of our lives that will surely interfere with our destiny. Moving forward in life with Christ is rewarding if we allow Him to lead us and guide us unto all truth and understanding. There’s nothing in our past lives that should make us want to return to it except the sin that we were able to get away with. And with God, we cannot have a sinful life and expect Him to prosper us in the way of success. Let’s focus on what God has done in our lives, the changes that He wants to make for our good so that we can move forward in this life with His leading and guiding.
