The Word, with Our Morning Coffee

“If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” – 1 John 1:6-10

Everyday we see people in life professing, declaring and decreeing that they are of God or sent by God. Many of us proclaim that we love the Lord God, but our lives and the fruits of our labor don’t give us that indication. We each in church or at Bible study but during the rest of the week, a life of sin is displayed while involved in a lifestyle contrary to the Word of God. Those that are living in this manner are deceiving themselves as well as others. They don’t believe they are living in sin because they continue to attend church and try to do what is right. God’s Word tells us that this is a lie and His truth is not in us. Everyday God gives us life, and because of our sin nature, we have the potential to sin in word, thought and deed. If we think there are days when we won’t, we are only fooling ourselves. We have to learn to trust God that this potential to sin will decrease daily so that the enemy won’t increase it’s consistency. Then it becomes a practice or way of life. Confession of sin brings hope, life and transparency to an otherwise life of denial through life and those surrounding us. If we live as though we are perfect, then God’s Word says we make Him a liar and His truth is not in us. Confession also brings honesty and sincerity to our lives so that we will live openly and truthfully in the eyes of God and others. We are human beings, created to glorify God. We’re going to have trials and tribulations that we have to fight through, but it doesn’t give us a license to sin or continue therein. How do we stay away from denying our sin nature? Stay in God’s Word! Remain faithful and true to His precepts and continue to surround ourselves with people we can be held accountable to that will strengthen us to remain on course. We will still have the propensity to sin, but the effects of remaining in that sin will diminished more and more daily as we comply and surrender to His Word and guidance. Let’s not fool ourselves. Confess our sins daily to God, and ask Him for forgiveness. But also ask Him to help you forgive yourself, as well as forgive others. His Word also tells us that For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) So let’s be mindful and attentive to our lives, and begin to trust God that our tendancy to sin will diminish more and more daily. Have a great day friends. I’m praying that you do, in Jesus’ Name!
